Each year during the summer term parents, carers and grandparents are invited into school together with pre-school brothers and sisters for a whole school reading picnic.

A family atmosphere was generated throughout the school as children and adults shared books together, both in classrooms and outside areas.

Afterwards, our kitchen provided over 600 picnics for all our pupils and their guests. Families enjoyed sitting outside in the warm sunshine and really enjoyed eating their picnics together!

Everyone then played on our zoned playground complete with zones for football, huff n puff (stilts, hoops, bats, balls, skipping), dancing, fancy dress and ‘tyres and tents’ (the tyres and tents were made by pupils as part of our work with creative artists). Everyone also had the chance to access our adventure playground. This enabled parents to see first-hand the provision offer our pupils during lunchtimes.

Much positive feedback was received from parents on our comment cards, eg “Another absolutely fantastic event! As always much enjoyed by children and parents alike”, “What a fabulous selection of books! Really enjoyable and good to see all the toys in the playground that I hear so much about”.
