Achieve Well, Aim High, Have Fun

Healthy Schools

We are very proud to be a ‘HealthySchool’. Highlights of our ‘HealthySchool’ work include:-

All children are provided with a water bottle, free of charge, and all children have access to drinking water throughout the day.

All children are provided with a free piece of fruit or vegetable daily as a mid-morning snack.

All children may have a carton of milk daily for a small charge.

All children receive two lessons of high quality Physical Education each week.

Our playground is ‘zoned’ at lunchtime and children are free to visit any zone at any time. Zones include ‘huff and puff’ (stilts, balls, bats, beanbags, hoops, tyres, tents and pods), football, dressing up, dance and reading.

Our school dinners are cooked freshly on the premises and adhere to all nutritional standards. Children eat from Disney themed plates and bowls – NOT flight trays! Children have daily access to unlimited drinks, bread and a salad bar. Over half of our pupils choose to have a school dinner each day. Click here to see our school dinner menus.

Children choosing to bring packed lunches to school are encouraged to bring healthy lunchboxes. Click here to read our school's lunchbox policy.

We are a Derby County Football Club Partner School – all children have the chance to work with DCFC coaches as part of their PE lessons and also to attend our after-school clubs run by the DCFC coaches including football, cricket, basketball and tri-golf.

We offer the children a range of clubs focused on physical activity, including sports club, cheerleading, dance, gardening.

All children have access to outdoor equipment – either in our Nursery garden (complete with ‘Teletubby’ hill) or on our extensive adventure playground.

Children participate in a daily whole-school aerobics session to music at the end of each lunchtime.

We deliver a ‘physical literacy’ scheme of exercises to Reception and Year 2 children.

The children have an important say in the running of the school – each year they elect their classmates to serve on our School Council, ECO Committee and Healthy Schools Committee, all of which meet half-termly.

We have very strong provision for Personal, Social & Health Education and regularly work with external agencies to enhance this work.
